Sheriff: Iowa construction worker killed after being pinned by equipment

Emergency crews were called to the bridge that’s currently under construction on Highway 92, where it crosses the North Skunk River, on a report of a worker pinned by construction equipment.

An investigation is underway after a construction worker was killed while working on a bridge, according to the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office.Emergency crews were called at 5 p.m. Wednesday to the bridge that’s currently under construction on Highway 92, where it crosses the North Skunk River. According to law enforcement, the caller said a construction worker had been pinned by a piece of construction equipment.When first responders arrived, other workers on scene had already freed the victim. The victim, identified as 46-year-old Pablo Jesus Gomez-Garcia, of Ottumwa, was treated on scene by paramedics. A medical helicopter was called to the scene, but Gomez-Garcia died before medics were able to transport him.The death remains under investigation.More news:
